Gombe imposes curfew following violent disruption of Boys Brigade members’ burial

As a result of breakdown of law and order in the metropolis, Gombe State Government has imposed a curfew within the state capital, effective from Saturday to 6am on Sunday.

This was announced by the acting Secretary to the State Government, James Pisajih, in a statement on Saturday.

Violence had broken out in the state capital during the burial of nine members of the Boys and Girls Brigade who were killed following a dispute between members of the brigade and a security operative while on a procession to mark Easter.

During the burial on Saturday, Some members of the brigade and other youths had staged a procession in the metropolis to honour their slain colleagues.

However, another group of people intercepted the demonstrators and prevented them from continuing with the procession which resulted in violence but was later brought to calm following the intervention of security operatives.

The acting SSG stated that the situation would be reviewed after the restoration of normalcy.

“After due consultation with the Heads of security agencies in the state in response to the prevailing security situation in the state, especially Gombe metropolis.

“Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo has approved the imposition of curfew in Gombe metropolis with immediate effect from today April 27 to 28 6am,” he stated.

He stated that only officials on essential services were allowed to move around and they must produce evidence of such.
