Google moves to build generative AI models capable of simulating physical world

Search engine giant Google is making an ambitious move to develop generative models that are capable of simulating the physical world with artificial intelligence.

As part of its efforts to develop artificial general intelligence, Google is reportedly expanding its DeepMind research center, which is led by Tim Brooks.

“Ambitious plans to make massive generative models that simulate the world” are what Brooks and his team are working toward. The work to create world models will “power numerous domains, such as visual reasoning and simulation, planning for embodied agents, and real-time interactive entertainment,” according to reports.

With the goal of tackling important issues and scaling models to previously unheard-of computing levels, the new team will expand on the work of Google’s current Gemini, Veo, and Genie teams.

While Veo concentrates on creating videos, Gemini, Google’s premier AI model, manages duties like text production and image analysis.

“We believe scaling [AI training] on video and multimodal data is on the critical path to artificial general intelligence,” reads one of the job descriptions. Artificial general intelligence, or AGI, generally refers to AI that can accomplish any task a human can.

“World models will power numerous domains, such as visual reasoning and simulation, planning for embodied agents, and real-time interactive entertainment.”
