Ondo Assembly sacks LG caretaker committees

Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) on Sunday said that his government will confront herdsmen in the area with everything within its powers should peaceful engagements with them fail.

The governor said his administration has been employing the services of security agencies to engage the herdsmen to carry out their business peacefully, but warned that in an event the herdsmen refuse to desist from fomenting trouble in the state, that the government will be left with no option than to use its full might on them.

He stated this when he spoke during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day thanksgiving held at the St. David’s Cathedral Anglican Church, Akure.

Akeredolu condemned the repeated attacks on the farm of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, by some herdsmen.

His condemnation came on the heels of current incidences of killings by suspected herdsman in the Middle-Belt states, especially in Benue where over 70 had been killed between January 1 and now.

He said, “We have been using security agencies to engage the herdsmen to carry out their business peacefully, but when engagement fails, we will use force; we will confront the herdsmen with all we have.”

Also applauding members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, especially the fallen heroes, for laying their lives for the unity of the country, he said, “We want to appreciate our fallen heroes because they are the reason we are here. They fought for the unity of the country and they deserve our respect and commendation.

“We must appreciate them because they have made great sacrifice for the living. They have done well. They are the people being sent to the troubled communities in the country to ensure peace. We owe them a lot for their sacrifices; they are true defenders”, he said.
