Gov Akeredolu stirs crisis as Ondo lawmakers threaten to impeach speaker

The alleged directive by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu that the impeached deputy speaker lroju Ogundeji be reinstated immediately has caused serious uncertainty in the house as lawmakers have threatened to impeach the speaker if he adheres to the directive.

As lawmakers engage themselves in a serious exchange of words, the state police commissioner Gbenga Adeyanju along with operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) and other security chiefs led a team of security officers to restore peace in the assembly.

Ripples Nigeria gathers that the whole problem was as a result of the state governor’s directive to reinstate the deputy speaker of the house who was impeached on Tuesday.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu had met with the lawmakers on Tuesday in order to bring peace amongst them, but 14 lawmakers insisted that Ogundeji remains impeached as 12 lawmakers were alleged to be ready to reverse the impeachment.

The lawmakers have said that to make things easier for Ogundeji, that he should resign as his impeachment would be converted to resignation.

Some other lawmakers reportedly threatened to impeach the speaker if he should consider carrying out the governor’s directive

Meanwhile more security personnel’s have been assigned to the assembly premises.

Party members are presently in a meeting with the lawmakers.

Men of Nigeria Police flooded the Ondo State House of Assembly following tension that erupted at the Assembly Complex.

It was learnt that when the lawmakers got wind of the moves to reinstate the sacked deputy speaker, what followed, was a shouting contest between those in support of the alleged directive and those against it.

The shouting match which took place on the corridor close to the House Speaker Bamidele Oleyelogun’s office, was calmed by the intervention of some top security chiefs in the state, who raced to the Assembly on hearing of the development.

The security officers who calmed the nerves of the angry lawmakers were led by the state police commissioner, Gbenga Adeyanju, and other security chiefs.

Also noticed at the Assembly complex following the shouting match was the state All Progressives Congress (APC), chairman, Ade Adetimehin.
