The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has lauded Senator Smart Adeyemi’s decision to dump the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, while also calling on politicians in the state who are still in the opposition party, to emulate him by defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the interest of the people of the state.
The Governor stated this in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kingsley Fanwo, to welcome Senator Adeyemi  to the APC.
It will be recalled that the two term Senator defected on Friday from the PDP to APC, citing the need to protect the interest of his people and because of the exemplary leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Governor Bello, in the statement, welcomed the former Senator to the party, urging him to work with party leaders in the state to bring real change to the people.
The Governor said the PDP has been losing important leaders to the APC since 2014, urging others who are still in PDP but want the progress of the state to jump ship to the APC in order to move the state forward, hailing the former President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, as an experienced politician, who will bring his wealth of experience to bear, insisting that the All Progressives Congress remains one big family in the state.
The Governor further said he will continue to deliver democracy dividends to Kogi people to give his party a good platform to continue to dominate the political landscape of the Confluence State, affirming that the defection of political figures to the party across the state testifies to the renewed confidence of the people in the APC-led government in the state.
