Gov Bello prevails as Kogi Assembly impeaches embattled Deputy Gov, Achuba

The Kogi State House of Assembly has impeached the Deputy Governor of the state, Simon Achuba.

The Majority Leader of the house, Bello Abdullah Balogun, made this known to newsmen at the assembly complex on Friday.

Achuba’s impeachment is coming after the judicial panel of enquiry set up by the Kogi State Chief Judge, Justice Nadir Ajanah, to investigate Achuba’s alleged gross misconduct submitted its report.

The majority leader said the house had received, studied and deliberated on the report and made a unanimous decision to impeach Achuba.

He explained that a seven-man committee headed by John Bayeshea submitted the report to the Speaker of the House, Mathew Kolawole, before the lawmakers took the decision.

Recall that Achuba had in August 2019, raised an alarm of an alleged threat to his life and accused his principal, Governor Yahaya Bello, of intolerance of contrary views.

Achuba had also criticised the administration for non-performance, claiming that was the reason for the rift between himself and Governor Bello.

The state government had however dismissed Achuba’s claims, saying he had no evidence for his claims. It said the government does not train assassins and could not be involved in sending killers after anyone.

The State Assembly had shortly after Achuba’s allegations commenced impeachment proceedings against him for criticising the governor.

Members of the assembly described the action of the embattled deputy governor as gross misconduct against Governor Bello and the people of Kogi State.

The assembly had, thereafter, directed the Chief Judge in the state to set up a committee to proceed with the impeachment of Mr Achuba.
