Akwa Ibom govt set to pay new minimum wage, vows not sack workers

The Court of Appeal sitting in Calabar, Cross River, on Wednesday upheld the victory of Akwa Ibom Governor, Emmanuel Udom, in the March 9 governorship election in the state.

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nsima Ekere, had approached the appellate court to challenge Emmanuel’s declaration as winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The state governorship election petition tribunal had on September 5 dismissed the APC candidate’s petition for lack of merit.

It had also held that the APC candidate failed to prove that the elections were not conducted in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act.
