Gov. Ishaku kicks as herdsmen declare 7-day strike over grazing bill
A seven-day strike embarked upon by herdsmen under the umbrella of the state chapter of the Miyeti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, has been condemned by Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State.
The strike by the group protesting the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranchers Establishment Bill 2017 has witnessed total closure of the two major abattoirs in Jalingo and the distribution of other livestock activities across the state.
Speaking through his Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Sylvanus Giwa, the governor said the protest by the Miyeti Allah, which led to the closure of abattoir and activities of livestock in the state, was condemnable and uncalled for.

A day before, the herdsmen who were armed stormed the premises of the Taraba State House of Assembly threatening fire and brimstone if the grazing bill is passed into law.
In a speech by the state’s Chairman of Miyeti Allah, Sahabi Tukur, which was read by Alhaji Adamu Azo at the gate of the Taraba State House of Assembly before the Speaker, the group condemned the bill which they described as a move to subdue the Fulani tribe and also to undermine and restrict activities of the Fulani tribe in the state.
It called on lawmakers to jettison the bill in the collective interest of the people of the state while also threatening to disrupt law and order if the bill is passed into law.
