Gov Masari admonishes colleagues on security matters

Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State has regretted the absence of governors of the North West to a meeting meant to discuss the security issues of the sub region on Saturday.

Apparently disappointed with the development, Masari called on his colleagues to understand that security is more important than politics, as security affects life.

The meeting which held in Kaduna State on Saturday only had in attendance deputy governors of Sokoto and Kaduna states.

Others who attended the meeting were Secretaries to the State Governments (SSGs) of Sokoto, Kaduna and Katsina states, as well as different consultants on security.

Expressing his disappointment with the development, Masari who heads the security committee inaugurated by the Northern Governors Forum, said, “The issue of security is more important than politics as it affects life.”

Masari said that the absence of governors of the sub region “will not however hinder the discussions or delay the meeting,” adding that it was essential the group create ways of ensuring that attendance was not only by the governors, but also their Deputies and SSGs.

“We must devise means of continuing with the meeting even when the governors are not in attendance.

“Before we leave, we should have a programme that we can brief our governors, we should not allow this laudable initiative rely only on the availability of governors,” Masari said.

The governor made this comment before the meeting went into a closed door session.

Part of the agenda of the meeting were regional integration and economic cooperation among the seven states in the North West.
