Gov Okorocha encourages citizens to steal rather than smoke hemp (Video)

A video trending on the social media has quoted controversial Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha as saying that thieves are now preferred in the state than hemp smokers.

The governor, who was addressing some youths, spoke in Igbo language, noting that if one steals in the state that the person would only be sent to prison while anyone caught smoking hemp in the state will not only be sent to prison, but that his home and that of the person that sold the hemp to him would be razed down.

The governor said, “As I return home (did not indicate where he returned from) there is now an order in the state banning hemp smoking. Hemp smoking has killed many people in this state. So, both the person who sells and person who smokes hemp, if caught their homes will be destroyed.

“Now in Imo State, we prefer that people are thieves than being hemp smokers. If one is caught stealing he will be imprisoned. If the person is an armed robber he will be killed. If somebody is caught only for stealing he will be put in prison, but if the person is caught smoking hemp, he will be put in prison and his home will also be destroyed.

In response, many of his audience in the video answered that they do smoke hemps, while few voices said they do not.
