GOV PRIMARY: Two ex-govs, three ex-senators, 28 others fight for Ekiti APC ticket

The Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will today determine among the 33 aspirants, including two former governors and three erstwhile senators, who will fly it’s flag as a governorship candidate for the July 14, 2018 state election.

The two governors for this Saturday (today’s) APC primary in the state are the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Kayode Fayemi, and Segun Oni, who is also the party’s South-West deputy national chairman.

The three onetime senators are Babafemi Ojudu, the Political Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari; Ayo Arise and Gbenga Aluko.

Others in the battle to grab APC ticket and wrestle power from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state include a former member of the House of Representatives and ex-Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Lagos State, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele; a former member of the House of Representatives, Bamidele Faparusi; a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Femi Bamisile and a former Commissioner for Information, Afunminiyi Afuye.

There is also Wole Oluyede, Bimbo Daramola, Wole Oluleye, Adebayo Orire, Kola Alabi, Kayode Ojo, Muyiwa Olumilua, Victor Kolade, Debo Ajayi, Dele Okeya, Diran Adesua, Sesan Fatoba, Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, Olumuyiwa Coker and Adekunle Esan.

The rest are Dipo Ogunkoyode. Bodunde Adeyanju, Sunday Adebomi, Bisi Aloba, Otunba Yinka Akerele, Charles Dahunsi, Ajayi Olowo, Tosin Olofinluyi and Taye Matesun.

According to the state APC, all these aspirants have filled and returned the expression of interest forms meaning that they are all eligible to contest.

Following the experience of the party during the Ondo State governorship election, where some members of the party dumped the party as a result of the outcome of the election, there are expressed fears that the scenario may repeat itself in Ekiti.

These fears however, have been dispelled by the party’s national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, who has argued when he interacted with the aspirants and others that the Ondo experience would not reoccur this Saturday.
