Akwa Ibom govt cries out over plans to take over the state forcefully

Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom State has blamed the rising spate of insecurity in the state on the activities of desperate politicians.

The governor made the comments days after three female students of Obong University at Obong Nntak in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State were kidnapped from their hostel.

He also warned that his administration would not spare any culprits, however highly placed, who is involved in criminal acts in the state.

Emmanuel who made the remarks while addressing reporters at the weekend as part of activities marking his third year in office, also revealed that investigations had begun into various incidents to fish out the sponsors and perpetrators of the bloodshed in some local government areas.

He said: “Although I don’t like to speak on security issues, insecurity in Etim Ekpo and Ukanafun is being sponsored and we are tracking the sponsors.”

The abduction of the three female students of the institution by suspected militants was confirmed by Police spokesman Odiko MacDon, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

MacDon also revealed that one other student sustained a gun wound on the shoulder during the attack by the militants.

He said the injured student “was rescued and taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment”.
