2019: Gov Wike unveils INEC, APC plot to allegedly rig Rivers, Delta, A’Ibom elections

Rivers State governor, Nyeson Wike has berated his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi for playing politics with the killing of the notorious cultist, Johnson Igwediba, popularly known as Don Wanny who was recently killed by soldiers in Enugu State.

Wanny was said to be responsible for the massacre of some Christians returning from a cross over programme on New Year day in Omoku, Rivers State.

Reacting to the incident, and killing of the cultist, Amaechi, who is currently the minister of Transport, called for the resignation of Wike, adding that the insecurity situation in the state had grown worse since he took over control of the state.

But the governor in Wike in a broadcast to residents of the state on Monday, said “Contrary to his (Amaechi’s) false claims and posturing the security challenge in Omoku predated our administration and Rivers State was never peaceful when he held sway as Governor.

“In case he has forgotten, this same Don Wanny tragically killed 32 persons in Omoku on the 14th of December 2014 under his watch as Governor. Yet, he failed to bring Don Wanny to justice,” Wike added.

Wike who thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for rising to the occasion after security operatives gunned down Don Wanny, said that Omoku in particular, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government area of the state had been held hostage Don Wanny who was killed by security operatives in Enugu where he allegedly fled to after the New Year day attack in Omoku, Rivers state.

“For years the security situation in Omoku in particular, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government area in general, has been most challenging because of the criminal activities of Don Wanny and his gang.

“We therefore wholeheartedly thank President Muhammadu Buhari for rising to the occasion and not politicking with the issue of security. We also commend the security agencies, particularly, the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Security, for swiftly rising to the challenge in the most professional manner.

The governor in the broadcast which had 20 bullet points also blasted former Rivers governor Rotimi Amaechi for earlier blaming him for the New Year killings.

Wike said; “Regrettably, instead of showing respect for the dead and genuine sympathies to the bereaved families, the leader of the All Progressives Congress and former Governor of the State prefers to exploit the unfortunate incident for political ends by disseminating wild, unguarded and inciting statements to the unsuspecting public”.
