Gov Wike bans #RevolutionNow protests in Rivers

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has banned the staging of ‘RevolutionNow’ protests in the state.

Wike, who gave the order of Sunday in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, also called on Local Government chairmen in the state to report any suspicious activity to security officials.

He warned that Rivers State did not share what the ‘RevolutioNow’ protests represents.

The statement by Governor Wike reads in part; “Rivers State is not part of the ‘Revolution Now’ protest and whatever illegal agenda it sought to pursue.

“Rivers State does not subscribe to what the ‘Revolution Now’ protest represents and Rivers State is not part of the protest.”

Meanwhile, the Third Force has signaled its intention to go ahead with the protests scheduled for today Monday, August 5, despite the arrest of one of its key facilitators, Omoyele Sowore.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the group expressed its desire to go ahead with demonstrations and also noted that it has signaled all members and supporters of the movement to join the nationwide strike.

The statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Obe also condemned in unequivocal terms the subversive arrest and detention of Sowore.
