The Nigerian Governors Forum, NGF, has said it is working behind the scenes to resolve the Abia State governorship impasse so as to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order in the state.
This was stated on Sunday in Sokoto by the Chairman of the forum and Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, when traditional rulers from Abia State paid a condolence visit to the state over the death of Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi, while also calling on the parties in the crisis to respect the rule of law.
According Governor Yari, governors of the other 35 states in the country are not comfortable with the situation in Abia and are doing all they can to ensure things are sorted out without leading to a breakdown of law and order. He also added that all those claiming victory must respect the courts.
He also admonished them to avoid acts that could lead to violence.
Yari said: “As a forum, we are concerned about what is going on in Abia and we are working to ensure all sides respect the courts, and uphold peace. Abia is known for peace and as such, we should not do things that would disturb the peace of the state.”
