Governors suspend meeting indefinitely over COVID-19

Governors of the 36 states of the federation under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) have suspended indefinitely their meeting slated for Wednesday because of the Coronavirus pandemic ravaging the world and its economy.

The meeting would have enabled the governors to further discuss economic issues as they affect the country.

The NGF’s Head of Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, who announced the cancellation of the meeting through a text message, simply wrote, “meeting for Wednesday postponed indefinitely.”

The NGF had last week set up a committee to comprehensively review the effect of the ravaging Coronavirus on the economy and advise the state governments on the actions required to address the challenges in the economy.

The governors, who met to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and falling oil prices on the Nigerian economy, set up the seven-member sub-committee to proffer solutions to the problems.
