Grace Mugabe’s doctorate degree under scrutiny after claims it was fraudulently obtained

Days after lecturers at the University of Zimbabwe filed a petition asking for authorities to investigate Grace Mugabe’s doctorate degree, the case has been taken up by an anti-corruption agency.

Reports say an investigating into whether the former First Lady fraudulently obtained the doctorate is underway even though Mrs Mugabe has previously defended her academic record.

She was awarded the PhD just months after enrolling at university in 2014 even though doctorates typically require years of full-time research but lecturers at the same institution are behind the petition to investigate how she obtained the qualification.

Grace and her husband were sacked following a ruling by the Zanu-PF party after the ex-leader made covert moves to have his wife succeed him as the party leader and president of the country.

In the ex-president’s place, the party appointed former vice-president Emmerson Mnangagwa who later emerged as the president of Zimbabwe.
