Greenhorn battles veterans for Tambuwal’s job

Ahead of the inauguration of the eighth National Assembly in June, eight House of Representatives members have indicated interest in heading the Lower House as speaker, taking over from Aminu Tambuwal.

Those who have indicated interest so far, include a newcomer to the House, Mojeed Alabi, Femi Gbajabiamila, Abdulmumin Jibrin and Yakubu Dogara. Others are Israel Famurewa, Leo Ogor and Muhammad Monguno.

Gbajabiala, and Famurewa are from the South-West; Jibrin, (North-West); Dogara and Monguno from North-East; Iriase is from the South-South; while Ogor, who is the only member of the PDP among the contestants, is from the South-East geo-political zone.

A Professor of Law and Political Science, Mojeed Alabi, was former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, from Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency.
