Group threatens mass protest if Buhari misses another FEC meeting

Following President Muhammadu Buhari’s absence at the last two Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, a civil society group, Change the Change Coalition, on Thursday said it will massively protest should Buhari fail to show up at the next FEC meeting.

There have been growing concerns over President Buhari’s health issue. His absence from three consecutive FEC meetings as well as absence from public functions, while only being seen on Fridays during prayers at the Presidential Villa, has also not helped matters.

Following this, the group argued that Buhari should rather officially transmit power to his vice, Yemi Osinbajo, as he did during his 49 days medical trip to London, instead of keeping away from work.

This was stated by the national coordinator of CCC, Mazi Bismarck Oji, during a news conference in Enugu. He added that the current intrigues surrounding Buhari’s health could be likened to the situation that prevailed in the Presidential Villa during the time of the late former president, Umaru Yar’Adua.

“What we have before us is another Yar’Adua scenario – the President has been absent from at least two FEC meetings consecutively.

“Firstly, the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, told us the President was attending to more important matters and delegated the Vice President to chair the meeting. What could be more important than chairing the weekly FEC meeting, more so when his attendance would have allayed fears about his health status?

“Secondly, Lai Mohammed told us the President would be working from home. That is an insult on the intelligence of Nigerians and another episode in the theatre of the bizarre which this administration has turned governance into”, he stated.
