GULF CRISIS: Saudi says it suspended talks with Qatar over "distorted facts"

Saudi authorities revealed that it decided to suspended talks with Qatar over the lingering Gulf crisis after it accused Doha of distorting facts about an earlier call, and said it was ending talks.

The talks which had initially been seen as a possible breakthrough in the crisis was suspended shortly after a phone call between the Qatari leader and the Saudi crown prince.

Last week, US President Donald Trump and Saudi Arabia’s King Salman were both locked in discussion to find a lasting diplomatic resolution to end a lingering regional dispute with Qatar.

According to a report from White House, Trump discussed the issue in a telephone conversation with King Salman, with Trump telling Salman that a diplomatic resolution would fulfill a commitment — made when Trump visited Riyadh — to maintain unity while fighting terrorism.

The diplomatic crisis began in June, when Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates cut ties to Qatar over allegations that it was funding extremists and was too close to Iran. Qatar has denied funding extremists.
