Gunman shoots, kills 12-yr-old, fatally wounds 3–yr-old boy

An unknown gunman shot and killed a 12-year-old girl and fatally shot a 3-year-old; both victims who were sitting on a porch at their home in North Carolina when the incident happened.

Southern Pines Police Chief Bob Temme told local media outlets that the children were shot around 4 p.m. Friday as the 12-year-old died when she was taken to hospital while the 3-year-old boy was said to be fighting for his life.

Capt. Charles Campbell said Jalinda Campbell (12) was taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, where she died. Kyleigh Graham (3) was flown by helicopter to Duke University Medical Center after he was shot in the neck.

It wasn’t known if the police captain and the shooting victim were related.

Police say they are now on the trail of two men in connection with the shootings with investigators revealing that the suspect and the intended target knew each other.
