Gunmen in military uniform attack INEC vehicle carrying election materials

An Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) vehicle conveying non-sensitive election materials to one of the LGAs in Benue state has been attacked by gunmen wearing military uniform.

The State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda disclosed this to newsmen in the state while answering questions about the possibility of hoodlums who were camouflaging as policemen.

He further explained that the vehicle was carrying non-sensitive materials to Logo area of the state when it was attacked.

The REC said that efforts were ongoing to curb this, adding that the Commission had said that security men participating in the election would be accredited.

Yilwatda stated further that 22,000 ad hoc staff made up of able people and People Living With Disabilities, who would work in 5,102 polling units have been recruited for the conduct of the 2019 general elections in the state, with 3,000 trained people on standby in case of any eventuality.
