Gunmen kill lone opposition member in Oyo House of Assembly

Oyo State House of Assembly member, Gideon Aremu, representing Orelope State Constituency has been murdered by unknown gunmen.

The gunmen traced the lawmaker using a motorcycle in the late hours of Friday evening as he was returning home in Ibadan.

Adekunle Ajisebutu, spokesman of the Oyo police command, who confirmed the assassination, said investigation is ongoing to unravel the culprits.

While he was alive, Aremu was the only opposition lawmaker in the constituency, as his other nine colleagues are from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In December, the appeal court upheld the election of the Labour Party representative, affirming the ruling of the election tribunal.
