Gunmen strike again in Lagos, abduct Ambode’s accountant

The growing menace of criminal gangs and unidentified gunmen operating in different riverine communities in Lagos State through the creeks, continued unabated, as the Director of Accounts in the office of the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, was kidnapped.

The kidnapped director, Thomas Otuyemi, 60, was taken away by the gunmen alongside his son in the Epe axis of the state to an unknown location. The gunmen reportedly came from one of the creeks in the area.

According to sources, though the incident happened on Saturday, it did not get to be known until Sunday.

Confirming the abduction of the Otuyemi, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the police have commenced efforts to rescue the abducted director and his son by trailing the kidnappers.

Promising that Otuyemi and his son would be rescued soon, Badmos said the police are already searching the creeks.

It would be recalled that Lagos riverine communities have come under attacks lately by gunmen widely suspected to be militants.

Riverine communities in the Ikorodu and Igando areas have recorded such attacks with heavy casualties from the gunmen who reportedly entered the communities through the creeks.
