Hausa/Yoruba clash: Aregbesola announces a 2-day curfew in Ile-Ife

Scores of Hausa residents who survived the recent battle between them and the Yorubas in the ancient town of Ile-Ife, are reportedly fleeing from their Sabo community where the fight broke out.

The exodus is coming even after the Inspector General of Police (IGP) deployed a police team to reinforce other security agencies, including the Osun State command of the force, the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to forestalling further crisis in the town.

Alhaji Malami Nasidi, one of the Hausa leaders, Afobaje of the Hausa communities in Ile-Ife revealed that his people needed to flee their community to avoid any further attacks.

He revealed that he doesn’t have anywhere to sleep, adding that he and his family and other victims had been sleeping outside and could not guarantee their security.

“We need to go for now because our people are calling us to come back home and we don’t have any option than to leave now until peace is completely restored,” he said.

Following the clash between the Hausa and Yoruba communities in Ile-Ife, which reportedly led to the death of at least five people, Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola declared a two-day curfew in the entire Ile-Ife area of the state.

The clashes which mostly took place at Sabo, Lagere and Olaoluwa areas of Ile-Ife, allegedly ensued following accusation that some Hausa men have been raping and harassing wives of Yoruba men in the Sabo area of Ile-Ife.

Consequently, some Yoruba men were said to have on Tuesday attacked the Hausa community. The crisis later snowballed into a deadly one on Wednesday, leaving at least five people dead with over one hundred injured.

Some of the victims were burnt beyond recognition.

Buhari should talk to his people, they are too violent, they are the ones separating Nigeria apart, something has to be done to curb them. If they are not killing, they are raping… are they the only ones ? If they know they can’t do without misbehaving, all of them should be flushed out of the west

Allow buhari to rest, try to be considerate of someone who just came back from 50 days sick vacation. And mind you, Buhari is not an Hausa man but Fulani man so try to be sensible.

I trust the ojaja of odua, the paramount oni of ife will use his diplomatic sense to salvage the situation because left to the governor of the state, he is clueless.
