Hawaii judge extends halt of Trump's revised travel ban

An order blocking President Donald Trump’s controversial travel ban has been extended by a federal judge in Hawaii on Wednesday until the state’s lawsuit is resolved.

The order to extend the blocking of the travel ban was issued by U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson after hearing arguments.

In his arguement, State Attorney General Douglas Chin said the ban’s message is like a “neon sign flashing ‘Muslim ban, Muslim ban'” that the government did not turn off.

And Chin also took the opportunity to slam Trump, saying in his arguments, “We cannot fault the president for being politically incorrect, but we do fault him for being constitutionally incorrect.”

The State of Hawaii became the first state to sue to stop Trump’s revised travel ban after its attorney’s filed a lawsuit at a federal court in Honolulu.

The state had previously sued over Trump’s initial travel ban, but that lawsuit was put on hold while other cases played out across the country.

Hawaii later gave notice that it intended to file an amended lawsuit to cover the new ban, which was supposed to go into effect March 16.

The dictates of the revised travel ban states that people from six Muslim-majority nations who are seeking new visas are temporarily halted from entry into the U.S even as it also suspends the country’s refugee program.
