Hazard replaces Kompany as Belgium captain

Eden Hazard will have the honour of captaining Belgium at Euro 2016 in regular skipper Vincent Kompany‘s absence.

The Chelsea winger might be coming off one of his most disappointing seasons, but he’s still expected to be a big
player for his country in France this summer.

Hazard barely kicked a ball for the English champions over the first three quarters of the season, waiting until the end of last month to score his first Premier League goal.

He does seem to have turned a corner in recent weeks though, scoring a great goal in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham before hitting the net against Liverpool Wednesday night.

Kompany won’t play any part at the European Championships after suffering another injury setback early on in Manchester City’s 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid last week.

This is just the latest in a string of thigh and groin injuries the Belgian has suffered this season.
Hazard has been a dependable player throughout his time with the Belgian national squad.

Making his debut in 2008, the winger has played 62 times for his country and got five goals as Belgian qualified for the Euros from a difficult group which included Wales.
