Hearing on Jibrin’s suit to stop his suspension fixed for Oct 21

Abdulmumin Jibrin’s suit filed in August 9, seeking a court order to stop any plan by the lower legislative chamber to suspend him, has been fixed for hearing October 21.

The date for the hearing of his suit by a Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday is coming after the House of Representatives on Wednesday suspended him for 180 legislative days.

The former House Chairman on Appropriation Committee had filed his suit during the just concluded vacation of the Federal High Court, but failed to get it heard by Justice Okon Abang, due to the petitioner’s failure to first seek and obtain leave of the court for the hearing of the‎ case during the period.

When the court resumed from vacation, the case was reassigned to Justice John Tsoho and the matter was fixed for Friday for mention.

Mr Mohammed Abdulhamid, Jibrin’s lawyer on Friday told the judge that the House of Representatives had, by going ahead to suspend his client ‘overreached’ his client’s motion filed before the court to seek an order restraining the House from suspending him.

However, Justice Tsoho held that since the day’s business was for the mention of the case, he would prefer to adjourn it till October 21 for the hearing of all undecided motions.
