Herdsmen attack Plateau again, kill pastor, others

The long arm of the law has caught up with a herdsman who allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl in Ebonyi State.

Reports say the suspect is now cooling his heels in police net after committing the crime in Umuifi community, in the Anioma-Isu Onicha Local Government of the state.

Reacting to the incident, the victim who is a student of Union Secondary School, Ague-Isu, said she is yet to recover from the incident even after she was taken to a medical facility for treatment.

Recounting her ordeal, the victim said; “I had gone to the farm to get vegetables when I was accosted by the herdsman. He came to our farm with his cows and asked me for water and food, which I said I did not have. He went and got more cows to surround me.

“He said if I allowed him to have sex with me, he would give me N700. I refused and started running away. He chased me and used the back of his cutlass to attack me. He then raped me. I want the government to help me. Young girls are no longer safe to go the farm to help their parents. The man should be prosecuted,” she added.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lovet Odah, could not comment on the incident as she noted that she had not been briefed but promised to give details as soon as she got a low down on the matter.
