The Bishop of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Awka diocese Dr. Alex Ibezim has condemned the manner in which President Muhammadu Buhari is handling the issue of bloody attacks by herdsmen across the country.

Dr. Ibezim rising from the 2018 synod at the St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Amawbia in a message with the theme “Mission, the heart of God,” urged Buhari to treat the matter with seriousness.

The charge by Dr. Ibezim reads thus; “Nigeria, a major oil producer and Africa’s most populous nation and second-largest economy, is facing challenges. Most political parties are much more concerned about upcoming elections rather than the burning issues of the country.

“Political liberalisation ushered in by the return to civilian rule in 1999 has allowed militants from religious and ethnic groups to pursue their demands through violence.

“Separatist aspirations have also been growing, prompting reminders of the bitter civil war over the breakaway Biafran republic in the late 1960s.

The charge by Dr. Ibezim is coming a day after Catholic Bishops in Nigeria informed that they are getting ready for a planned protests over attacks by herdsmen.

Rising from the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, members of the body have fixed Tuesday, May 22, as a day of protests for Catholic faithfuls across the country.

The date was announced via a Sunday Bulletin which was circulated to all the dioceses of the church on Sunday.

The CBCN also revealed that the protests would coincide with the burial of two priests and 17 parishioners killed by herdsmen during a morning mass at Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State on the 24th of April.
