Herdsmen crises pushing Nigeria on the path of break-up –Ex-Minister Maku

Former Information Minister, Labaran Maku, has expressed fears that Nigeria would divide should the Federal Government allow the issues of wanton killings by Fulani herdsmen destabilise the Middle Belt region of the country.

Maku, who is currently the national secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) , stated this in Lafia the Nasarawa State capital, when he spoke at the 15th Anniversary of Radio Nigeria Precious FM Lafia, stressing that the middle-belt region is the belt that holds Nigeria’s unity, which if destabilised, will place the country’s unity in danger.

“The middle-belt region is the belt that holds Nigeria together, once the middle-belt region is destabilised, Nigeria would divide, once the middle is divided the unity of Nigeria is in danger.

“Once that peace is destabilised, there would be problem. That is my worry about Nigeria today… The reason why government was established in the first instance is that citizens concede their rights to elected representatives so that they will use that power to give them peace and stability for their society to move forward.”

He added while making reference to the days his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was in power, “When we were here, we saw the root of this crisis taking place in 20011. We rose to the occasion and brought it down and there was stability.

“Today, this crisis is becoming like a diabetes, you are treating it today, tomorrow it worsens.”
