Herdsmen sack 25 communities in Nasarawa, kill twelve

Suspected Fulani herdsmen, have reportedly sacked 25 communities in Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

According to some leaders of the affected communities who spoke with newsmen at the weekend, the 25 communities have been deserted, while residents have relocated to neighbouring towns for safety.

The leaders who spoke on the platform of Indigenous Tiv People of Kadarko, Keana Local Government, Nasarawa State, said the attack started on the 15th of January.

They revealed that twelve people were killed during the coordinated attacks and over thirty are receiving treatment in various hospitals across the state.

They claimed that Governor Tanko Almakura visited the affected communities on the 30th of January, where he directed that corpses of those killed by suspected herdsmen be buried by their family members.

The leaders said the governor made available N500,000 to affected family members of those killed.

“We are deeply worried that the villages are inhabited by other ethnic nationalities like Alago, Eggon, Hausa, Igbo and others. It was only the Tiv people that were selected target of the terrorists.

“We are also bothered that the police were quickly informed when the terrorists launched their attack at about 1am on the 30th of January, there was no swift response from them. We wonder why the police could not respond on time to save the helpless people when they were duly informed of the shooting, killing and maiming at Agwan Tiv,” leader of the group, Dr. Benjamin Agbede said.

Others are Nyam Adaga, Cha, Cheiyo, Ahima, Mori, Kpilairor, Che Tor, Chia, Anisa, Dooga, Mbamar, Rest House, Anom, Che Utsaha and Ikpe.

The claims could not however be verified by Ripples Nigeria as at the time of filing in this report.
