#NotTooYoungToRun: Finally, 35-year-olds can run for president!

Young Nigerians are on the cusp of history as twenty-four of the thirty-six states in the country have reportedly passed the Not Too Young to Run bill, thereby achieving the mandatory minimum required for a constitutional amendment to be moved to the president for assent.

A frontline organisation pushing for the passage of the bill, YIAGA Africa, revealed the news on their social media platforms.

They disclosed that passage of the bill is still pending in 11 states, and was rejected in Taraba State.

States where the bill has been passed include Borno, Kaduna, Ogun, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Kwara, Plateau, and Katsina.

Passage of the bill in 24 states – two-thirds of the states in the country – means that the next stage is for the president to assent to the bill.

If the bill scales the final hurdle, age criteria for president would be 35, governor and senate 30, and the House of Representatives and state assembly 25.
