Despite a 2-0 second-leg victory over Togo, the home-based Super Eagles have crashed out of the race to the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The Hawks of Togo emerged winners of the tie on aggregate, having won the first leg 4-1 in Lome thereby carrying the day 4-3 overall.

They, ahead of Imama Amapakabo’s boys, sealed their qualification for the 2020 tournament billed for Cameroon.

At the Agege Stadium Lagos on Saturday night, the Eagles, who needed to score three unreplied goals to go through, mounted pressure on the Togolese right from start of the game.

Their positive approach saw them ahead in the 8th minute as Lobi Stars’ forward Sikiru Alimi fired the home side ahead.

The Eagles got their second goal in the 72nd minute through Alimi who fired home from outside the box.

The Eagles however failed to find the much needed third goal despite the centre referee adding additional 10 minutes.
