Hospital fire in Baghdad claims 11 babies

Public accusation of state mismanagement and corruption is expected to be on the increase after 11 premature babies were burnt to death after a fire outbreak at Baghdad’s Yarmouk maternity hospital.

Iraqi health ministry says the cause of the fire is still unknown but suggested that the outbreak may have been caused by an electrical fault.

Reports say at least seven children and 29 women were rescued from the fire which broke out in the hospital and were transferred to another health care centre for medical treatment.

There is widespread failure by construction companies and those providing building material to follow accepted standards as a lack of fire escapes points also contributes to the danger whenever a fire breaks out in the Asian country.
