Houses set ablaze in Bayelsa as soldier kills man over N50 bread

Ozizebiri community, in Southern Ijaw Bayelsa State has been in turmoil following the death of a 22-year-old man allegedly stabed to death by a a new military recruit over N50 loaf of bread.

The ugly incident which happened this Thursday has left at least three houses reduced to dust.

It was learnt that a popular local bread called madiga, which is locally made from butter and flour, gave rise to the fracas that led to the unfortunate event.

It was said that the killer, a 26-year-old newly recruited soldier identified simply as Ayibakare had engaged in an argument with the deceased whose name was only given as Princewill, an indigene of Opemam, before he furiously stabbed him to death.

Bayelsa State House of Assembly member representing Southern Ijaw constituency 2, Mr. Monday Obolo, who confirmed the development, disclosed that the killing led to a reprisal attack and burning of three houses.

He added that traditional rulers and elders from the affected communities were making efforts to address the issue, even as he called on security agencies to intervene in matter.
