Human Rights Watch says 34 killed in anti-Kabila protests

A report by the Human Rights Watch reveals that 34 people were killed by security forces in DRC following protests over the seeming tenure elongation of President Joseph Kabila.

According to the Central Africa Director of HWR in a Twitter message, 19 people lost their lives in the capital of Kinshasa and five others were killed in the southern mining hub of the country, Lubumbashi.

Demonstrations have been on the increase as Kabila is refusing to step down and end his mandate with many Congolese said to be dislusioned and tired of his leadership.

Kinshasa and other cities have been convulsed by violent demonstrations since Tuesday as Kabila, in power since 2001, reached the end of his second term in office without an election in place to choose his successor.
