Hurricane Harvey batters 50 counties in Texas, displaces 30,000 residents

Widespread flooding caused by Tropical Storm Harvey, has battered 50 counties in Texas and have left no less than 30,000 residents seeking cover in temporary shelters across the city.

According to director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the floods were brought about by an estimated six months-worth of rain falling in the last three days alone.

“We have not seen an event like this. You could not draw this forecast up, you could not dream this forecast up,” Long said.

Thus far, only two people have been declared dead after the torment of hurricane Harvey, the most powerful storm to have hit the American city of Texas in more than 50 years.

The first unidentified victim passed away on Friday night, in a house fire in the town of Rockport, 30 miles (48 km) north of Corpus Christi, while the second was identified as a woman who was killed as she drove through flooded streets on Houston’s west side, a Houston police officer said.
