Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi has concluded his contract with Middlesbrough as the English Championship ended today (Sunday).

Mikel, who penned a deal in January to stay with Boro till the end of the season, has revealed that he is looking to continue his career elsewhere.

The former Chelsea midfielder scored his maiden goal for the club in Sunday’s 2-1 win against Rotherham United but the victory was not enough to seal a play-off spot for them.

Mikel says there are lots of options for him currently, but he will take his time to pick the club that is best for him and his ambitions.

”I don’t know, you can never say never. My contract ends, if there’s a conversation, okay fine,” Mikel told BBC Tees Sport as cited by CSN.

”It’s a great club, it’s a big club. They will find the right players, get that dressing room back and make sure next season they are in the playoffs or automatic promotion.

”I don’t know, we’ll see what happens. I have conversation with my people and then we’ll see what comes out, options here and there.

”There’s a lot of option but you always have to pick the right one, the one that is going to suit you and suit the way you play and what you want to achieve.

”I still want to win trophies, so I will go somewhere where you know, the players, the fans and the team want to win.”

Mikel, who was handed the captain band in Boro’s last five games of the season, featured in 19 league games following his arrival at the club.

It is yet to be known whether the Nigeria captain will return to the national team ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) billed to begin in June in Egypt.

Mikel last played for Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
