Ibadan stampede: Court grants Ooni ex-wife, 2 others bail

Justice K.B. Olawoyin of the Oyo State High Court, Ibadan, on Monday granted bail to Queen Naomi Silekunola, the ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and two others bail.

The other persons are the Chief Executive Officer of an Ibadan-based radio station, Agidigbo FM, Hamzat Oriyomi, and the Principal of Islamic High School, Ibadan, Fasasi Abdullahi.

The trio were arraigned by the state government over the stampede that led to the death of 35 children at a Christmas Funfair in Ibadan last year.

The judge gave the ruling following a bail application filed by the counsel to the defendants on January 7.

He granted the defendants bail in the sum of N10 million each and two sureties in like sum.

The judge added that the sureties submit landed documents within the jurisdiction of the court.

In addition, Olawoyin ordered the defendants to submit their international passports to the court registrar and restrained them from granting any form of interview during the pendency of the case.
