IBADAN: Unidentified woman burnt to death in tanker fire

An unidentified woman lost her life at the Eleyele end of Ibadan, Oyo State when she was burnt beyond recognition in a tanker fire incident which involved three other vehicles and also razed buildings.

According to reports, the accident occurred when the tanker which was carrying 33,000 litres of diesel detached from the vehicle which was ferrying it while it was ascending a hill.

Reports say the intensity of the fire made it very difficult to rescue the woman who was trapped in a car after the tank had rolled over a Nissan Almera car coming behind and caught fire.

Men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, state Fire Brigade Service, policemen, and even officials of Department of State Security Services (DSS), tried in vain to identify the woman.

On sighting the charred remains of the victim, the trailer driver and the motor boy fled the scene for fear of being arrested or lynched by an already gathering crowd of sympathisers.

A Mazda car with registration number Lagos LSR 208 EJ, which was parked in the compound of a former commissioner, was affected by the raging fire.
