The self-professed Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho, has commenced a fresh negotiation with the Benin Republic for movement to another facility.

Igboho’s counsel, Yomi Aliyyu, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, said the negotiation was due to the activist’s failing health.

He dismissed reports that Igboho was on his way to Germany.

The statement read: “Kindly discountenance any news about the release of Chief Sunday Adeyemo or that he is on his way to Germany. It is not true, please.

“With the assistance of a worldwide renowned professor and Akintoye and lawyers (Falola and myself), we are negotiating for something more comfortable for him than prison to meet his health demand. I advise you to remain calm and prayerful.”

The Beninese government extended Igboho’s detention period by another six months in February.

The activist was arrested on July 1, 2021, at an airport in the Benin Republic, where he intended to board a plane to Germany.
