The Nigeria Police high command is worried that unscrupulous individuals may find their way into the Force in the ongoing recruitment exercise by the Police.

The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase expressed this fear at the weekend during a training exercise organised by the Police.

The IGP, who was represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of training, AIG Olufemi Adenaike lamented that some of the applicants may not really be passionate about the Police Force, thus giving room for unpatriotic individuals and rogues to join the Force.

“Over 900,000 applied for the 10,000 police job recently advertised. Do they all like police, no. They don’t but because of the increasing rate of unemployment, they decided to apply and this may lead to us having bad eggs in the Force,” he said.

The ‎IGP however, warned such applicants to be wary of any bad behaviour adding that the Force will not jeopardise the level of its professionalism.

He also noted that with right training, officers in the Force and those to be recruited will live up to their responsibility.

Speaking on the need for the training, the National President of the Foundation for Correction of Moral Decadence, Dr. Joseph Obiechie explained that the level of moral decadence in the country is high and there is a need for change in attitude.

Obeiche noted that the training will make officers become a better and also ensure that the high level of professionalism practised by the‎ Nigeria Police Force in recent times is sustained.
