Iheanacho dares Iwobi as Arsenal battle Man City

It would be a battle of supremacy as Super Eagles new kids on the block Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi confront each in the English Premier League today (Sunday).

The grudge match becomes fiercer as Manchester City host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in a battle for a Champions League place between the third and fourth-placed sides.

His two-goal cameo in Sunday’s defeat at Southampton took his goals tally to 13 in 33 appearances, a record only surpassed by Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne.

Iheanacho who has now scored 13 goals in all competitions for Manchester City said he is ready for Iwobi whom he acknowledged as a great player.

Seven of those goals were in the EPL with the others in cup games.

A further breakdown of the goals showed Iheanacho was on target in the win over Stoke City (4-0), Swansea (2-1) and Crystal Palace (1-0).

“[Arsenal] are a clever, quick team and I think this will be a very tough game for us, but one we have to win,” Iheanacho told the City website

“I will be up against my brother, Alex Iwobi, who I know really well from the Nigerian national team – he’s a great player and he’s looking forward to playing against us [too].”

Like Iheanacho, Iwobi has also come through the ranks at Arsenal, where he has been since the age of seven.

A year older, the 20-year-old forward has been less prolific than his compatriot with two goals for Arsenal in the league.

His goals have come in wins against Watford and Everton.

Iwobi, who has featured for various England age-group teams, is a team player who has provided two assists for the London Gunners.

He has made a dozen appearances in the league as well as featured in the UEFA Champions League, starting in the crucial clash at Barcelona.
