Iheanacho makes history, nets brace as Leicester reach FA Cup 4th round

Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho became the first player to score a goal awarded by a video assistant referee (VAR) in English football as Leicester beat Fleetwood in an FA Cup third-round replay.

Iheanacho scored twice – one goal in each half – to seal a 2-0 victory for the Foxes as they advance to the fourth round of the competition.

The forward’s second goal in the 77th minute was initially ruled out for offside but was eventually given after the center referee consulted the VAR, and the goal was awarded.

Iheanacho, who was later replaced by Shinji Okazaki ten minutes from time, has now ended his goal drought, having last scored for Leicester in a 3-1 home win against Leeds in the Carabao Cup last October.

He has now scored three goals in all competitions for Leicester since joining them from Manchester City last summer.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Iheanacho was rested while Ahmed Musa did not make the match squad.

In the other FA Cup third round replays, Cardiff defeated Mansfield 4-1, Sheffield Wednesday beat Carlisle 2-0, West Ham edged Shrewsbury 1-0 in extra time and Reading thrashed Stevenage 3-0.

Leicester will go on to play another League One side, Peterborough FC in the fourth round.
