Ijaws flee Lagos, Ogun for fear of attack from Yoruba

Ijaw people leaving in Lagos and Ogun States are running away in numbers to Ijawland over fear of possible attack by Reformed Odua Peoples Congress (ROPC) a pan Yoruba group.
It was learnt that a good many of them at the weekend returned to South-South region, as the ultimatum issued by ROPC for the Ijaws in Ogun and Lagos states to leave or risk their lives has expired.
Confirming the situation, spokesperson of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Eric Omare, said, “As at Sunday morning, information at our disposal indicates that some Ijaw people resident in Lagos and Ogun states, for fear of attack, are already relocating from their places of residence to the South-South.”
Following attacks by militants suspected to be Ijaws, the ROPC on July 16, issued a 14-day ultimatum to Ijaw groups over the invasion, killings and kidnapping being perpetrated in Ogun and Lagos states, saying “if they fail to yield, it will be eye for eye and tooth for tooth.”
