I'm not scared of prison, Zuma says amid corruption probe

President Jacob Zuma of South Africa has declared that he is not scared to go to prison amid probe and investigation into alleged corruption.

Zuma cited a decade spent in jail during apartheid era saying he is not scared to face the music days after an anti-graft watchdog released a report recommending a judicial probe into alleged graft.

“I’m not afraid of jail. I’ve been to jail during the struggle,” Zuma told a cheering crowd in Kwa-Zulu Natal, his home province and political stronghold.

After a report was released by judges into investigations to verify whether Zuma, cabinet members, and some state companies acted improperly in their dealings with wealthy Indian businessmen, Zuma criticised the report saying he was not given a chance to provide “meaningful input” into the investigation.

“There’s no longer any space for democratic debate. The only space there is for court arguments by lawyers. That’s not democracy,” Zuma said.
