Immigration recruits cry to Buhari

Following the dismissal of the immediate past Comptroller-General of the NIS, David Parrandang, under whom they were recruited, some of the freshly recruited officers and men of the Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS) on Saturday made a passionate appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to save their jobs.
They alleged their new jobs were on the line.
The distraught officers, who spoke as a group in Abuja, said they feel threatened that they may lose their jobs following the directive of the federal government to revisit the last year recruitment exercise, where hundreds of prospective applicants died at screening centres across the country.
“Between 20th and 24th 2015 of April test were conducted in Zaria, Lagos, Abuja, Bauchi and Enugu where candidate that passed the test were asked to report to the service commands for physical examination.
“We are neither APC nor PDP members, we are Nigerian youths and upon this ground we plead you to confirm the appointment of these recruits, as it would reduce the number of the unemployed,” they stated.
It would be recalled that the Federal Government on 26th, March 2014 under former President Goodluck Jonathan set up a Presidential Committee to assess the controversial recruitment exercise following the failed recruitment where 15 prospective NIS job seekers lost their lives.

The committee was an 11-man committee made up of the heads of the various paramilitary organisations in the country under the Chairmanship of the Chairman Federal Civil Service Commission, with representatives of DG Federal Character Commission, Attorney-general of the Federation, Head of service and the Permanent Secretary General Services office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
However, the concerned officers stated that vacancies were advertised on February 9, 2015 on the website of Federal Civil Service Commission and other media.
According to them, youths from across the country applied and those who met the requirement were short-listed for a computer based aptitude test.
