IMO: Traditional rulers back Ihedioha's probe of ex-Gov. Okorocha

The Imo State governor-elect, Emeka Ihedioha has received the support of 51 governorship candidates who contested against him in the March 9 gubernatorial election in the state.

The candidates, led by the governorship candidate of Fresh Democratic Party (FDP) Excel Ochiama, pledged their support for Ihedioha’s administration, promising to collectively fight any governorship candidate or persons that would challenge the election that produced him as the state governor-elect.

Ochiama said: “The election of March 9, 2019 that produced Emeka Ihedioha was a credible, free and fair one. For the first time in the state, the Independent National Electoral Commission and the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Emeka Ezeonu, manifested what they were established to do. The people of the state are overwhelmingly happy for the victory of Ihedioha. We shall collectively fight any candidate or candidates that rise against the victory of Ihedioha.’’

Also speaking during the candidates’ visit to Ihedioha in Owerri on Saturday, the governorship candidate of the All Grassroots Alliance, Mr Ngozi Olehi promised that they would give Ihedioha all the necessary support to succeed, but he must seek the face of God for grace and wisdom to administer the state.

In his response, Ihedioha thanked them for the visit, adding that their support would make him succeed in office.

He said: “For us to get Imo back on track, all hands must be on deck. For me, there is no victor no vanquished in the last governorship election.

“Please, join forces with me and my deputy governor-elect, Gerald Irona, to move Imo to an enviable height, where all will feel the impact of democratic governance. My government will be an all-inclusive one.’’
