Imo APC set to implode as Okorocha, Dep Gov fight over choice of son-in-law as successor

There are obvious fears that the Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) may be heading for a large implosion.

This is following the hot contest, between the state’s deputy governor, Prince Eze Madumere, and the Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu, on which of them will succeed Governor Rochas Okorocha in 2019.

Madumere has suggested that both Okorocha and his Chief of Staff, who is also the governor’s son-in-law, are not capable of stopping his ambition to become the next governor of Imo.

Madumere, who spoke to a section of leaders from the state on Thursday, said that nobody but God can stop his 2019 ambition.

“I will pursue my gubernatorial ambition to a logical conclusion. I am in the race to serve people of Imo State. I have the requisite leadership qualities and vision to take the state to a greater height,” he said.

Describing himself as “a seasoned administrator with many years of experience in private and public sector”, Madumere said that Imo people are highly enlightened and ought to be carried along in policy formulation and implementation.

Regretting that those he said he managed and nurtured to lime light in politics betrayed him, Madumere likened his situation to that of Jesus Christ, who was betrayed by his own apostle, Judas Iscariot.

He added, “I rely not in any man no matter how highly placed. I have taken my destiny in my hands. I have God and the people of Imo State. God has always granted me the grace to carry on.

“I have no regret because it has made me even stronger in my bid to make the difference in changing the tide for the people. Any development that does not trickle down to the masses is a misplaced priority.”
